Caipirasuchus is an extinct genus of sphagesaurid notosuchian that lived in Brazil during the Late Cretaceous period. There are six species of Caipirasuchus: C. paulistanus, C. montealtensis, C. stenognathus, C. mineirus, C. attenboroughi, and C. catanduvensis. This article is about C. paulistanus. Its genus name means Caipira crocodile, Caipira referring to the rural inhabitants of the Brazilian states. The specific name comes from paulista, referring to the inhabitants of São Paulo State. Caipirasuchus paulistanus was relatively small, 4 feet in length, 1 foot height, and 0.6 foot width. It was omnivorous, meaning it ate both plants and meat.
