Sphenacodonts (and/or Sphenacodontids) are a group of carnivorous pelycosaurs that lived from Late Pennsylvanian subepoch to middle Permian. Some sphenacodonts were the ancestors of the therapsids, but this category is only for non-therapsid sphenacodonts.
