Lepterpeton dobbsii is an extinct nectridean tetrapodomorph that lived in North America during the Late Carboniferous period. It is a part of the subfamily Sauropleurinae, in the family Urocordylidae. Not much is known about any member of the Sauropleurinae, so the information below was gathered from estimates of other members of Urocordylidae. Lepterpeton dobbsii had a longer and more pointed skull than other Urocordylidae, due to being a Sauropleurine. Lepterpeton looked like a newt, with a heavily elongated tail. This tail was flat on the sides, acting as a paddle of sorts. Its skull, like other Urocordylidae, was loosely connected together. This made the jaw more flexible, possibly an adaptation for feeding, as sharp teeth could face outwards.
