Order Bactritida
Family Bactritidae
Genus Lobobactrites
Lobobactrites is a bactritid genus that lived throughout most of the Devonian, from the early to well into the late. Derivation is from Bactrites, in turn gave rise to the lower Devonian Cyrtobactrites.
Lobobactrites, named by Schindewolf, 1932, has a world-wide distribution, from the lower Devonian to the upper, and is like Bactrites, straight, orthoconic, but with a more narrowly oval cross section. In some the flanks are flattened and rarely with dorsal carina (keels). Sutures have a small ventral lobe, well-developed lateral lobes, and dorsal saddle which is more prominent than in Bactrites, and commonly pointed.
