Panthera onca mesembrina also known commonly as Pleistocene South American Jaguar is an extinct genus of the family Panthera, species onca, endemic to North America and South America during the Pleistocene epoch (1.8 Ma—11,000 years ago), existing for approximately 30.8-20.6 million years.[1]

Morphology[]

Two specimens were examined by Legendre and Roth for body mass. The first specimen was estimated to have a weight of 46.3 kg (100 lb). The second was estimated to have a weight of 129.1 kg (280 lb).[2]

Fossil distribution[]

Fossils have been uncovered from Cueva del Mylodon, Chile, Piaui, Brazil, and north to Adams County, Washington.[3]
