Rio Grande do Sul has a great potential for palaeontological tourism, with many palaeontological sites and museums in the geopark of paleorrota. There is a large geologic area in the center of the state that dates back to the Triassic period. Rhynchosaurs, thecodonts, exaeretodons, and basal dinosaurs lived here during the Triassic. Staurikosaurus, Guaibasaurus, Saturnalia, Sacisaurus, Unaysaurus and many other dinosaurs have been recovered from fossil deposits. Paleorrota is in Santa Maria Formation and Caturrita Formation.
