Xu Xing is a famed Chinese paleontologist who has named many dinosaurs, including the new Jurassic Ceratopsian Yinlong, the feathered relative of Tyrannosaurus, Guanlong, the unusual Gigantoraptor, and the "sleeping dragon" Mei. He was born in Xin Jiang, China, in 1969. A graduate from the department of geology of Peking University, he is currently a research fellow at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. He has made major breakthroughs in the study of evolution and origin of birds from feathered dinosaurs.
